I know it\’s been a couple days since my last update but I\’ve been super busy. But finally I have brought high speed internet to the farm. No more one tabling for me finally. This means lots of other things too like I can be a full time Cardrunners member since now I can actually watch the videos so yay for me. On the poker front things have been interesting. Started playing six max LHE since I think it\’s a fairly aggressive complex game. I jumped out to a huge 8BB/100Hand lead but I\’ve come back down to a more reasonable 4BB/100. However it took my opponents lots of suckouts to bring me down. Lots of 6 out pairs or even 3 out two pairs like my AJ vs AQ on an AJ4 board. The queen seems to make it all the time. Oh well not much you can do about it. I\’ve been getting used to the variance. The only time I got spewy too was a set over set for about half a buyin but I got most of it back.
I\’ve also went back to back in SNG wins so that also has helped keep the variance monkey from decimating my bankroll. I\’ve kept it about even taking away the variance but the SNG wins keeping me afloat. So I\’ll take my 3BB I just wish I was playing in the 100/200 game. The win would seem much more interesting.
Well the downswing continues. Partially. I\’ve been back up and thought I was roucouping then bam I\’m back down again. I blame the stud games. Honestly I can\’t believe some of the things that have happened to me. It\’s hard to find one outers in stud but they have been happening. It\’s too bad I haven\’t been running decently or I\’d be up huge thanks to those calling stations. So I decided to recoup my losses in the usual way I started playing O/8 again. Well then I dropped two buyins there so I was like this is definitely not working. So I went to my back up back up. HU. I like heads up because I can play a short stack and pound on them plus get them in dominated situations were my variance is somewhat watered down it seems. Well I have ran well at that and busted about 5 short stacks that I got in bad situations. These include hands like AK vs A4 Limped the button then got 10 6 in against K8 on a K 10 6 board. I think those were even the tightest situations. The rest were straights with flush draws against one pair or sometimes two pair hands. So thats always fun, I think I\’d play HU all the time if I could and had the roll for it. Maybe if I really build up my roll I\’d take a shot. I like playing the HU SNG on occasion though because I like the constant action and also at the levels I play you usually can wait out the players and get them in dominated situations. Or they get you in a dominated situation. I was in a 10 player SNG today down to four I was on the button. 99 and I raised 3X. He re min popped me and I shoved. JJ. Woops oh well. Should\’ve waited it out since I was in second.
On another front I finally was a man and joined up with cardrunners as a gold member. I\’ve been putting it off due to my poor computer and internet connection. But now with high speed coming to the farm I decided it\’ll be worth it. If not for the instruction the entertainment value alone is great. I don\’t care what anyone says. Well I guess thats all for now. I had one all wrote out yesterday but it didn\’t post. It had some sweet hands in it but now it\’s lost. Hopefully everyone is having a good week.
Well that sure didn\’t go as planned. For some reason I decided to drop two BI\’s last night playing horse. Just couldn\’t seem to win a hand or catch any sort of a break whatever. The only hand I won was a blind hand in limit holdem. I called a raise with 10 4 off on the button. Now I know what your saying and of course I should never play this hand however it was the first hand and four people had posted. So I was getting like 8-1 on my money and I have position and it\’s an easy hand to get away from post flop if I don\’t flop anything. The raiser doesn\’t have to have a real strong hand here or a real big pair to try and steal most of that dead money out there. Anyways I flopped the two pair and turned a full house maxmized a little value on the hand but very little. So the other player in flips over AA for a nice crack and of course I get berated but I wasn\’t going to explain myself to him because why when he obviously doesn\’t value pot odds and position in that situation. However the stud games were not kind to me at all. I felt lucky to win any pot and I was getting called down by nothing hands that got there every time on that seventh card. Two hands in a row I had guys catch aces on the final card for the only better two pair. One of which was the last A in the deck because the other two were in other hands that were folded. It was like I had no credability whatsoever even though I had legitimate hands that never improved. Good example of this was in stud I had 8 9 10 all diamonds. My next card was the J of diamonds. I ended up the hands with two pair J and 10. What a waste of potential that hands was. Of course it was H/L to so I only got half of a small pot. I think I\’ll give it another shot tommorow though and we\’ll see what happens. If I lose too many BI\’s though I\’ll just go back to O/8 to regain some confidence even though I still feel I should be able to rock these HORSE games. I\’m not even sure if tightening up helps. How tight can you play when 2 3 4 6 in razz gets beaten in the end by a A J 8 9 starting hand with bets being called the entire way. So I\’m hoping it\’s just variance and not my starting hand selection but I don\’t feel it is. My reads have been on I just haven\’t quite got there in many of my hands and my opponents have improved on the 6 and 7th cards. Anyways on to another rant. There is this guy on pokerstars and I won\’t name names unless there is a popular demand to know who this guy is. Anyways he could be the biggest idiot ever all he does is berate others play and tell them how stupid they are. Then when they lose a hand he says the deserved it. Even the people that agree with him he eventually stabs in the back and goes after them. I mean honestly what is the point of this, is this guys self esteem and self worth that bad. Plus why tell people they play bad it just makes them want to play better. And how effective is it to tilt people when you do it every hand. Honesetly when I have position on him I play looser because his play is so transparent plus I like to tilt him. He has no understanding of the math side of the game either as per some of his comments. Anyways the funny thing is he recently moved up two limits in one jump when I never saw him win at the current limit and I like to watch his table just to see what he\’s going to say. And he just drops BI\’s so maybe I\’ll take a shot with him at the table. Anyways I was just putting it out there why do people act this way. I know sometimes it\’s for a certain reason i.e. image or tilt or such but this is just silly and I\’m pretty sure he thinks he\’s awesome and cool. Anyways I\’m out and hopefully I run better tommorow. It shouldn\’t be too hard to recoup if I hit half the hands I lost in my last session.
Well another interesting day it has been and no one wants to work with a hangover but there you have it. Things got a little wild at the halloween party last night which equaled a head ache for me today but thats what happens if you want to have a little fun and I wasn\’t the most embarrassing person there which is always a bonus. Today was another day on the farm too just working away a little wrench pullin, a little welding and a little time with the cutting torch. However on the awesome side of things there was some sweet football action and the boys in Green ended up in second place which means a home playoff game. So next weekend will definitely be a big time in the city. On the poker front I\’m still loving the HORSE games but maybe I\’ll go back to O/8 in a couple weeks. The games are just too soft and too fun to ignore though. I saw some play that made me real happy today. One guy called every street in razz with two tens and J K for upcards. Plus he played every hand which was also nice. However its hard to want to isolate when most of them are playing one card over ten in their downcards it seems. I\’m not sure why some of them play these games when they only have one strong game which is usually holdem. No ones holdem game is that strong to overcome the handicap of the other games. I\’m not complaining because it\’s been good grinding for me but showing down a 22J low is never good. I think it\’s especially profitable for O/8 players because we are used to playing to the nuts when all the other games are a little less card reliant so I think the most trash is played in that game. I\’ve seen K7810 hands played to showdown. So I\’m pretty sure if I just play TAG I\’ll be fine. The big pots seem to make up for any variance at all even though I know I\’ll lose a buyin or two sometime. Oh well life is good and the cards are in the air so thats all that matters. Hopefully there are some interesting hands that come up later tonight.
Hey Everyone,
What can I say I\’m a micro limit grinder which always presents many interesting situations and of course is the good reason for a blog. Not only that but I\’m from a very rural part of Canada and no one to talk poker with so this is the easiest way to get out frustrations. Of course forums work well too but however with a dial up connection looking at post after post can take lots of time. Anyways I\’m just gettin back into the saddle for this year so to speak, as working in the agricultural industry I work all summer long and am able to play lots of poker in the winter months. Which of course has led me to be a micro stakes grinder as I like to take off money and not increase the size of my roll, even though I did play 3/6 to 5/10 at one time. Plus my love for the game makes me want to learn them all which is why I\’m at this point. Lately I\’ve been playing the .5/1 HORSE games on Stars after rebuilding most of my roll from O/8. As Barry Greenstein says my favourite game is someone else\’s least favourite and at these stakes it\’s hard to find someone who doesn\’t lack at one of the games or more. Mind you as long as you don\’t mind someone calling down with two pair in razz or sucking out a full house when you all ready have three of a kind showing. It happens but the math keeps you sane and the pots you win almost always outweigh the pots you lose. Anyways I guess I only want to talk about one hand today. It was a nice stud hand. I had A J K all spades to start and completed. The bring in called with what later turned out to be 3 J 5. I then caught a 6 and he caught a 5. I still felt my hand was best and bet out. He called and caught a 10 and I got a Q. I thought maybe I could still push him off his hand with a bet however he called but the last upcard paired my K and he received a 7 so the boards look like this me- A J K 6 Q K him- 3 J 5 4 10 7. Now maybe he has me beat but I had him on a draw the whole time and didn\’t think he made it and so I bet. My last card was a 10 for the straight which was great. He received a 7 for a pair of sevens missing his gutshot. Here is the great part. I checked and he bet with his pair of sevens knowing he couldn\’t win I of course check raised with what I know is the best hand as he is not suited. Now he knows he can\’t win because he can see my pair of kings and he calls my check raise with only a pair of sevens I was sure he had to be somewhat stronger than that. Oh well thats why I love the pokerz donkeys which is good because the day has started on a bit of a downswing after I was on a roll last night. So anyways I guess thats all for the first installment. So hopefully I can get msyelf into some wacky situations this year and maybe a blog will help me play better because I don\’t want to have to report about the donk moves I made just the hero calls. Oh well hope everyone has a great halloween and nothing gets too out of control.
